I'm getting the sunroof/headliner sound as well. Mine is on the driver's side, just above my head right where the corners of the moonroof and console and sunvisor all meet. It's a bit more prevalent when it gets colder outside.
I'm not sure I want any dealer to start taking apart the car just for that headliner -- it really does sound like a glue/adhesive issue. When I open the sunroof, I can see the bead of adhesive there.

Yep, moonroof/ headliner noise here too. Took it to the dealer for 1st oil change, headliner noise, wandering on highway, and ridiculous whistling coming off the side mirrors. Weather was too bad to road test for wandering and mirror noise, and the tech FOUND the noise, but "they couldn't tell if this was typical or not." Typical for a $24k Ford with 3,500 mi? Not quite, I sold them for 6 years and $16k Foci never made this noise from up there. So I spent an hour at the dear, got an oil change, and have to go back for drives and comparisons.

Probably the only way to get the headliner (flat) into a sedan is to take off the windshield. so they went in the door. The windshield is a big deal.. better the door than the windshield...
At least the Hatch they probably can go in the hatch? I can see taking out the front seats. but the rear fold down... The A B and C trim also would have to go. Then the headliner now has airbages in it too.. |

I have a "buzz" in the center console on slightly rough roads. If the car wasn't so quiet it would not be a problem but I just can't take it. I have spoken to service and will take them for a drive. I know for a fact the road right in front of the dealer demonstrates the problem perfectly. Started at about 150 miles. I can see them taking the dash apart to fix and causing all kinds of grief. I don't see how any extra noise like that could be considered "normal".

I've found that as the temps get colder the squeaks get louder. Maybe because everything contracts a little and starts rubbing. I have a squeak in the center of the dash that wasn't there a couple of weeks ago when it was warmer, at least that's where I think it is. I just let it squeak and wait until it warms up again. You will drive yourself crazy trying to find it and you'll end up in the nut house trying to fix it.

Our SEL started with the buzzy noise around the sun roof. I took a look in there and there is a plastic frame that goes around the opening in the headliner, presumably to stiffen the headliner. Anyway, what looked like hot melt glue that was holding the frame to the headliner was not holding. It still had some tack that would give you a stick noise when pressed together.
Anyway i ran a bead of silicone RTV adhesive between the frame and the headliner and it has been noise free for the past couple of months. |

Anyone have a Focus with a sunroof that doesn't rattle? I'm trying to decide whether to get the sunroof or not. I actually prefer not having one -- but my choices are limited by current dealer inventory.

got mine with 2000KM on it, doesn't rattle, but did notice part of the headliner was untucked over the driver's head. Makes me wonder if they replaced/fixed something. At least there's no noise/stains now. Fingers crossed.
