I (and many others) have been posting transmission issues in the non-performance section of 2012 Focus (whoops!)

Here's an update on that pulled TSB:

Quote:

P2610 - Indicates an error in the internal PCM engine off timer processor. The test fails when the difference between the engine off time and the central processing unit (CPU) time exceeds a calibrated limit for a calibrated amount of time.

For these DTCs, the technical details probably aren't important because there is a TSB that covers these issues:

TSB 11-10-2
Publication Date: October 2, 2011

Some 2012 Focus vehicles built on or before 8/12/2011 may exhibit the following engine drivability and/or automatic transmission concerns; RPM flare on deceleration coming to a stop, rough idle on deceleration coming to a stop, intermittent engine idle fluctuations at a stop, intermittent vehicle speed control inoperative, intermittent harsh engagement/shift, engine no-start with engine coolant temperature (ECT) open circuit faults and intermittent no-crank/no-start condition after performing normal Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test (PPT) diagnostic procedures. The vehicle may also exhibit diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) U0422, P00D2, P068A, P0850, P2610, P2832, P286F or P2877. The vehicle may also exhibit intermittent false initialization to 21 C (70 F) on the instrument cluster's ambient temperature display upon engine start up.

The fix is a simple reprogramming of the PCM and TCM.
Not that it seems to matter, because my dealer told me "That's how these transmissions work."

That's how they work - but they've changed something on models after 8/12/2011 and won't tell us what or why? I guess I didn't know dual-clutch transmissions were supposed to make crunching noises when shifting gears... I'm just trying to save Ford (and myself) a headache and $$ when my transmission fails in 3 years due to bad programming and the warranty will have to pay for it.

Btw, I'm at 7,500 miles and will be checking this issue at a different dealer tomorrow.

2012 6 speed transmission

got my car back after a week in the service bay, a guy from detroit came down to test drive and did this fix, reprogram pcm, trans, clutch, range sensor, shift drum adaptive learn and drive cycle. the car smoothed out alot and doesn't have that shudder anymore, still wish they would have been upfront about the feel of this new trans before selling it to us!

Tell me about it! Do you think it'd be better or worse to go into the dealer with a copy of the TSB? I don't want to be rude, but I want it fixed.

EDIT: Nice thing about it is that if they don't know about it, it tells them exactly what they have to do.

If I am able to get my hands on a copy of the TSB I take it in with me and present it to the service writer and tell him this is the issue and this is the fix.

That way no wires get crossed and they have a copy of it.

Any issue with a car should be dealt with as a issue and not based on severity, If the tech drives the vehicle and verifies that it does as the customer states they may consider it non severe but they are not sitting in traffic with the issue either.

The TSB that was released and recalled was for vehicles built on or before 08/12/11, What changed after 08/12/11 that they were not affected by this TSB?
Individual situations are handled on a case-by-case basis, and I want you to keep me updated on any changes, as that is the best way to ease your concerns. I can't speculate on why TSBs are for certain date ranges, as that is from the engineers, but I can ensure any updated are noted in the system, and escalated to your CSM.
