Exact same thing happened to me; 99% of 4 cyl cougars are manual so the bit of info didnt exist on my most commonly used forum.


For the shifter base; some contours had a metal base if you have a nearby junkyard to look around. Not 100% on the fitment with the focus; as long as its a cable shift (some were rod shift) I would think it would work. Probably easier to find then an svt unit.

funny everyone mentions the auto to manual engine swaps but forgets the crank position sensor. my first block was a auto and luckily someone on here told me to swap it out.

there used to be a company that sold a metal shifter bracket. i had that happen to me a very long time ago and just replaced it with a stock ford one. I also upgraded to the steeda short throw and havn't had an issue sense except breaking off the bottom tab that the cable attached onto on the short throw. Good thing allot of my friends are welders.

i daily drive this car no trailor here. they rub on big bumps but even then its a small rub.
