I learned the hard way to keep some spare chain links and a mini chain breaker with you. It's not fun to have to walk your bike back to the trailhead

I used to mtn bike but then I enlisted and haven't been able to go anywhere, so I just ride around base, or hit up the "skate"park and people laugh when they see me rockin my mtn bike but that normal stops after a few hits. But I never thought of doing it for exercise, I just like riding.

I road bike for recreation. Took a nasty spill last Friday night. Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to place a 6-8' long 4x4" post across the traffic lane in the dark. They had also thrown a trash can lid out into the street. I saw the trash can lid with my headlight and my attention was drawn to it. I did not see the post which was just beyond it and off to the side of it. I hit it at about 15-20 MPH. The first thing that hit the ground was my head. I'm pretty beat up with a mild concussion, bruised ribs (from the handlebars) and lots of scrapes and abrasions. According to the paramedics and the trauma docs in the ER I was extremely fortunate to have been wearing my helmet as I would have likely sustained a serious or even fatal TBI had I not been.
