heater/cooler vent modes malfunction

Hi there,

I have a 2003 Focus ZX5 and I suddenly discovered that the different modes of the heater/cooler ventilation do not function. It blows warm or cold air only in one mode and it is: frontal. When I turn the control switch to window, floor or mixed mode, nothing changes. It continues to blow in the same channels. Thus I can not clean the windows when fogged, neither heat the feet. The AC is fully functional, also the heater core does not seem affected. Must be something in the control switch, I assume. Has anyone experienced similar issue and how is it ti be resolved? By the way, the different speeds of the fan are fully functional.

The 'mix' function is cable operated from the dial on the panel. Likely the cable broke or is not attached on one end or the other. No vacuum controls, all straight forward cable and lever. You can look behind the center dash area and see the cable connections, drivers side, I believe.

it was exactly as you said. the cable was disconnected from the selector dial. I reconnected it and now it is all functional again...

I have the same problem. however i replaced the cable and it is stuck. after removing the piece that the cables attach to on the side of the HVAC housing. i tried to manually move the blend doors. the Floor mode door is stuck. after messing with it i freed it up, then after letting it sit for a few hours it was stuck again. i borrowed the Gas tank scope fiber optic camera from the Interdiction team at work and found out that there is cotton seed and debris holding the door stuck.

yeah stuff from your outside vents (under the windshield) can get in there (especially) if you dont have a cabin air filter installed. Theyre not as sealed as people think they are.
