Hello all,,

This is my first post on this forum and its here because i just traded in a 2011 fiesta on a 2012 focus SE w/powershift.. I traded in the fiesta because of transmission problems which sound like some i have seen on here.. Rattling/grinding etc. I hope i didn't get right back into the same problem. I had it stall out on me in traffic and the noise just got worse and worse. I work out of my car and run 200 to 300 miles a day so it got real annoying really quick. I kept getting it's under investigation for 5 weeks..Finally today the GM of my dealer bought it back with 8000 miles on it and got me in this focus hatchback. Its been nothing but smooth so far and i hope it stays that way. Good luck with anyone experiencing powershift problems . It drove me nuts

Just got a call from the dealership. After a day and a half of diagnosis, the technicians still got no clue where the rattling and vibration come from.Actually they got no clue because their laptop don't tell them sh!t! They are waiting instructions from Ford to know what's next.I already told them the Powershift tranny was the issue but they say their hands are tied until Ford tells them what to do.

Sounds like I'm gonna drive that crappy loaner for a long time.

The laptop can't tell you everything wrong with a car. Any good mechanic can pin point the exact source of unusual noises. If you take the car somewhere else and at least get them to tell you for sure where the noise is coming from then they will be forced to address it with out having their thumbs up their behinds.

If in doubt, pull fuse 67 and 79.

They know the car has a problem. The first time the technician took it out on a road test ,he felt the vibration and even took another 2012 with the same tranny to be sure it was not normal and it wasn't.The big problem is that they can't replicate the problem when the car is on the lift,so now they need Ford permission to do something else because they don't have evidence from a laptop to say what the problem is.I only had the car two weeks and the service department are calling me by my first name.I don't need to tell you that I'm less than impressed with this.

I will let you know more about the transmision in a few days. My 2012 Focus Titanium with 4900 miles on it experienced its first issue. I was on a two lane highway trying to pass an 18 wheeler and the car would not accelerate over 50 mpgs. The tach was at 5. I could not pull over so I took it out of 'D' and put it in 'S'. Response in S was much better but still slugish. I pulled over and turned the engine off / on at earliest convience and it performed okay the rest of the drive. My husband took it out later that evening and tested it up to 90mpg with no issue. So, it is at the Dealership today. I truly love this car and the way it usually performs. I am hopefull that this is a minor glitch...very hopefull...

Did you notice if the engine temps were normal?

I did check the gauges which were all within normal range. I also looked for an engine light (not on) I ran a vehicle report when I pulled over and nothing was reported. The Dealership ran diagnostics and could not detect an issue. I buy gas from the same station and use Shell. So, I will drive the car per my normal habits and bring it back should the problem reoccur. I am hoping this was a one time fluke.

Another update.Got another call from the dealership. They think the driver side drive shaft is warped/bent.The bad news is that it's gonna take between 3 to 5 days to get the part to know if it's gonna actually gonna fix the problem or not.If it doesn't fix it ,this means another week or two before getting my car back.

Sorry ,but I'm far from optimistic after quality control left that car roll out of the assembly line.

I got mine with the PowerShift 6-speed selectShift option. LIke it so far, but can't wait until the car gets through it's break-in period. Cars is a bit shaky right now (only has 120 miles on it), but I'll wait. Plus, people sort of have to realize it's drives differently because of the transmission. It's very smooth though,

Definitely worth the extra money.

mph? :P

Good luck with your car. I hope it's just a minor thing that the dealer will fix.
