As for the camera, if you don't get the OEM parts from Ford, I would recommend getting the best aftermarket camera you can get. The MFT is such a nice hi-res screen, I don't think it would look very good with a cheap lo-res camera. It's just a guess, though.
If it were possible after the fact, I would be careful about getting a non-OEM camera. MFT is likely carefully calibrated to use the OEM camera. If you get a different camera (with different focal length; lens distortion characteristics), the overlays that MFT draws over the camera image will likely be wrong.

I have added after market cams to both Dodges and Fords.

Coastale Tek makes a good camera with plenty of cable. I am sure there are other brands/companies out there. Find the AV hook ups, mount the camera and be sure to route your wire securely. Less the 100 bucks.

That is exactly how I viewed it. And the parking assist is a pretty cool bonus

I will probably order one of these cameras and test it out when my car gets delivered. It looks like I just need to find the A/V feeds for the camera and it is a simple connection. I'm guessing the camera just mounts on the license plate somehow. The only other thing that I would love to have is those front sensors. Can those be purchased after market?

If in doubt, pull fuse 67 and 79.

Waiting for details to this.
So one installs the hardware and the software figures it out?

That's the plan but we won't know for sure until someone attempts to hook a camera up. If an owner that already has the backup camera can temporarily disconnect it we would see if the message is the same: "Backup camera not available"

lol it's not a high-res screen at *all*. It's 800x398 if I'm not mistaken. That's less than any smartphone that you can buy on the planet.

The camera probably records at like 640x480 (which is standard television resolution and not high-res by any means). I doubt you'd be able to find many cameras that record at a lower resolution.
