Running 215/40 16 BFG Euro T/A's (crap tires).
Overall diameter is about 22.5".


A 215/50 17 is about 25.5".


I'm not really sure how diameter plays into times. I do think I need a taller tire though. The tire makes my gear ratios seem way to short.

If any of you Na guys are serious about getting your times down. go buy some 22in tall slicks. there easy on the drivetrain and will hook. there no reason that guys svt that did a 15 could go low 14s high 13s with slicks

Throw nitrous decent tires and a good tune for that nitrous at it and you will get some good times.

Really?
I'd always thought that as your power went up you wanted to up the diameter ... which lets you use less rpm for the same distance traveled; conversely, you travel further per rpm and if you have the power you get there faster.

I guess I should toss my snow tires on to see if this is true for me though (only other tires I have that are taller, and they are shot anyways)

No NA focus will max out 4th gear so you want to get thru the gears as quick as possible. Now remember im talking about a full drag slick like in the link.

If your running on motor or nitrous you want the smallest diameter tires you can get your hands on. if you are turbo-charged you want a larger diameter tire.

M&H seem to be very popular as well among drag racers. I'm about to drop the Credit Card on a set of 205/60R13(~23X8X13) Street/Strip Tires. Basically Bias Ply Slicks with two grooves cut in them and a D.O.T Marking.

I bracket race throughout the summer in the Street Class which requires a D.O.T approved tire.

Just food for thought depending on what you are planning to do.

i have a set of 23x8.5-15 M&H's i have yet to get to use them, rains everytime i try to go. after using slicks, i dont want to use street tires ever again lol... night and day.

How wide of slicks could I put on my stock steel 15" rims? Then I could swap them when I need them on.
