I'm not leaving any oil in my car over 3000 miles....much less a year even with synthetic. I will change my first oil at 500 and get all the break in material out of the pan. Then change it again at 2500. At every 2500-3000 miles my oil is drained. Might be a waste of money to some but to me it is peace of mind.

I change my own oil anyway so I can do two oil changes as cheap as someone paying to have theirs done once. I have an '86 Mustang GT that when the original motor came out and was still running at the time, it had 266,000 miles on it. I drove it very hard and when it was torn apart it was absolutely sludge and clean as a whistle. My '98 Escort that I am still driving today has 210,000 and still gets 32 mpg and does not drink a bit of oil. Not trying to change anybody's ways of servicing their car but that is how I take care of some it might be a waste of money but to me it just works.
