anyone have pics of timing belt tensioner after installed and engine ran?
Would like to see pics of the tensioner installed after a timing belt install and the engine has been ran. I've set mine a billion times and it will not stay in the window to save its life. In fact it stays a good inch or so away from the mark and does not fluctuate like I've read about on here. Started the car seems to run fine and no check engine lights after 60 miles. Thinking it might just be a little tight but no visual signs of wear or anything on the belt itself. Also any suggestions on a really good tensioner, saw some pics once on here with a metal pulley. Appreciate any thing anybody can add.

There is no metal tensioner pulley.
There is an Aluminum timing belt idler pulley though: ![]() http://goldcoastautomotive.com/cgi-b...tive&item=2471 No clue on if the tensioner stays near the line or not ... can't check mine because it's a bit different setup. I'd say if the belt feels taught and isn't walking to either edge then you should be fine. Double check that the finger is in the timing plate though. Sometimes it pops out and you don't notice,,, black plate there's a slot for the finger of the tensioner to fit into. |

Found where you posted this pic a little while back. Its what got me thinking about a metal tensioner. Is this some kind of custom setup your working on? Otherwise if it would work with stock what tensioner is that? Thanks again for the replies. Also anyone else got insight on the tensioner?

Awe hell, I forgot about that pic.
That isn't my engine. It was just a random Google image I found ... only one I could find of the freeze plug the guy needed to see. I'm not sure what tensioner that is but I will find out. Far as I know Gates, Dayco and Cloytes don't make it. ... I'm not even sure who's engine that is, so can't ask them. |

My tensioner does the same thing. I adjust it as needed and try to stay as close to the mark as possible. So far ive driven the car like this for at least 500 miles and nothing has happenned

how far off the mark does it get? Like I said mine is about an inch away from the window. Are you running the Gates tensioner? Cause I swapped from the Gates back to the stock Ford and the Ford wasn't off nearly as much as the Gates, even though my Ford one had the miles on it and the Gates one was used, which could explain why in itself. But I put the Gates back on for piece of mind cause it was new. Thanks again for all the opinions, if anyone else can keep adding to this I'd appreciate it.

Mine has been off the mark as well and when it was running didn't have any issues.
I am putting my engine back together this weekend and I'll let you know if the mark stays in the window. But I have found on a few SVTs that I have done the Timing Belt on, that it doesn't stay exactly there. -Ray-
