My trip computer showed 39.4mpg on a road trip to northern Michigan over the holiday weekend.



When I calculated it out after filling up once I got back home the actual mpg was a little over 38, which is pretty impressive for a car full of camping gear, running the a/c through 90 degree weather and cruising at 75mph.

with 1,000 miles on the OD I'm getting 33.62 mpg driving 50/50 city/highway.

At 600 miles the best I've been able to get is 22 in the city and 32 in the highway. I sure hope it improves.

I've got about 1350 miles on my 2012 Focus SE. It's the sedan with a manual transmission. I got 36.51 MPG on my last tank of (93 octane) gas. That's my own calculation, which is very close to the computer readout.

The previous tank of premium gas yielded 36.2 MPG, and the tank of 87 octane before that got me 34.9 MPG (but that was during the break-in period, so I'm not sure if the difference in MPG is due to the octane or not).

If I only do my work commute without ever taking side trips around town, and the weather is pleasant enough to avoid using my A/C, I think I can get close to 40 MPG. My commute is 75% interstate, 15% highway, and 10% town...with plenty of hills. Having the MPG readout in front of me all the time does cause me to drive more conservatively than I would otherwise.

Okay, I have to correct myself. The other night I coasted down some hills close to where I live both with the car in N and D. Each time I reset the fuel economy right before I took my foot of the brake and started downhill. What I found out was that I actually got 1 mpg better when in D. I wouldn't have believed it unless I did it myself. I kept the same speed for both runs. It's a twisty 25 mph road and about 1.6 miles long. In N I got 38 mpg and in D I got 39.1 mpg.

I now have 1600 miles on it and have been averaging at least 34 in mixed driving. The other day I was coming home from a town 85 miles away. Filled up with gas and reset my computer, set the cruise at 68 and when I hit the driveway the computer read 42 mpg!!! This road is an up and down road through the Catskills so I was pretty damned happy.

You guys are getting some fantastic numbers. I've only just broken 200 miles on mine, and my average MPG is only 24.3, but I've been in a lot of freeway traffic, and slow city driving. I'm sure that the numbers will improve soon. I am driving this car in with an eco approach, and today this showed up on my mini display! First car to ever give me a trophy!
