Just be thankful you don't have the 2.0 SOHC SPI (the "P" engine) and transmission - the old Escort problem child. Unless you pull the head and have the valve seats "staked" you WILL eventually have them drop on the #4 cylinder with engine killing effectiveness. Ford KNEW of the problem in the Escort but never fixed it or informed owners of the issue.
Don't forget the DPFE! Our second air conditioning compressor died approximately 4 years ago. Mileage prior to the last one dying was 24.5 to 26.5mpg; sometimes 28.0. Since the elimination of the compressor clutch and compressor - 30.5 to 32.5mpg and better plus an all-time high of 34.2. Pennzoil 5W20 full synthetic and Mobil One in the automatic transmission. However, during the summers in Mesa, Arizona... ac would be nice! Mileage drops off during our mandatory ethanol fuel during the winter/spring but pop right back with the removal of the ethanol from the fuel. Oil and filter change every 6000 miles. Don't forget the struts and shocks. AutoZone carries Sachs lifetime products; Sachs is the second largest OEM strut and shock manufacturer in the world. Many European super luxury sedans and sports model are fitted with Sachs at the factory. We have 256,000 on our 2003 Focus LX and after a number of single issues, and the reoccurring ones, it has been a great car. Don't give up on the Foci! John 480.330.2280 PS Have your seen any of the info on the 2012 RS - 350hp Foci? |
