Start a thread and list it as a "zetec build thread". Then every step of the way show pics and explain what was done so others can learn if they want to do the swap. List what you did, OEM part #'s, issues you ran into, etc, etc.

Recently decided to just sell the car, problems and all, to someone who could devote the time and effort to making it run like new. The car itself was in excellent condition but I told the new owner all about the condition of motor and what he's getting himself into. He was looking forward to the challenge and I wished him all the luck in the world. I wish I had more time to devote to rebuilding it but that's how it goes... now I'm a former focus owner.

Sold her for $350.. which is good considering she had over 250K miles on the clock. I can't complain at all about the valve issue. Any 4 cylinder motor that makes it that long without an issue is a pretty good deal. Honestly I think my issue started with a broken fan and it overheated a time or two... who knows, if that never happened, it would still be kicking it around the neighborhood.

This one was on Craigslist...... #1 and rare. I was talking to a guy that worked where they had a fleet or SOHC Focus'. He said it happened on all cylinders.

I have to agree from what I've seen:

Most Common #4
next #2

I've never seen #3 - anyone?

Happened on all cylinders? I think what probably happened is that it dropped a valve seat on one cylinder and it kept going through the intake manifold and into other cylinders until it was obliverated. I know on my SPI, when it dropped #2, you can see that particles of the valve seat flew into cylinder #3 and #4 because there is some indentions on the right side of the piston. Cyl #1 is the only one that looks normal and had no valve seat particles fly in it.

Cylinder #3 dropped valve seat? Never heard of it, never seen it.
