interchangeable xcal3?

there is a guy locally selling an sct xcal3 for cheap as hell. just says he doesn't need it. its for a 99-04 mustang. would this work for a 2003 zx3 zetec? of course id need to get a tune for my car and not for his mustang, but would it be something i could use? or a waste of money bc it wont work on my car? any help would be appreciated. thanx.

It'll work but you will have to get it unlocked, also they can only be unlocked 5 times, so check to see how many times it's been unlocked. You can find out by just plugging it in and going through the menu, it'll say how many unlocks left. Then you'll have to get a tune put on it for your car.

Oh don't forget it's I think 150 to get it unlocked. You have to send to SCT, then get a tune for it. Which if you go with Tom would be 150 or FSwerks would be 300. Ether way your already almostat the cost of just buying it brand new with a tune already installed from one of the two I mentioned. The only way this would be good is if you can't drop a bunch a cash at one time.

Tom was cool with me about that. I couldnt pay all at once so he let me pay in 2 payments.

Kinda hard to swallow the full amount all at once
