Like the title says, if You are planning on going, You might want to consider somewhere safer, like Libya or Iraq, lol.

If you drive to the border right now you deserve to get shot. I would still go to a resort in Cancun, Playa, or Puerto Vallarta type place but I would go by plane and arrange transport to the resort in advance and just stay there. If you go all inclusive there is no reason to leave.

Actually I was talking to my uncle who is a general in the Air Force and they have banned vacation to Mexico pretty much across the military due to the EXTREME violence taking place down south. My suggestion is to stay out of Mexico completely, if you do plan on going do what he said. Fly, prearrange transportation, and stay put. Mexico in general is falling apart and it's a bad place to be no matter where you end up going.
The drug wars are starting to spill over into the heavily vacationed spots as well and are becoming increasingly dangerous. From what my Uncle told me some of the stuff going down is very brutal, mass murders body mutilation etc. it's getting bad, not sure how they are going to fix it since it's this bad.

"2nd Gen problems"
I've spent too long looking into the abyss. It's starting to look back.
