Just FYI, I had an SVT for 6.5 years or so, and I never could get comfortable in those seats. So I'm not 100% sold that buying SVT seats would solve your problem. I had the same problem (back pain) and also I seem to recall sometimes leg numbness/tingling. I tried every conceivable positioning of the seat and was never satisfied.
I just got a 2010 Transit Connect as a work vehicle (which is based on the same C170 platform as the Focus) and the seats and seating position seem to be very similar... unfortunately. Maybe it is something inherent in the seat or the relation of seat to car. FWIW I'm about the same size (5'9" and 185 lbs). Good luck finding a solution to this.

Sedans and hatches have the same floorpan, and share seat bolt patterns.
Also, check for custom car/boat interior shops in your area. I had 2 cars modified for better cushioning added to the stock seat, and getting new car done too. Will report if they do a good job. And wiring is something to think about, if getting 2000-04 seats. |

Well i have found a cheap solution for me. I used a wedged shape foam pad i think used for sitting up or reading in bed. I cut a chunk of it and put it over the bar that is down low. I then put a cheap pleather seat cover from walmart over it the seat cover keeps it in places and allows me to slide in and out easy without moving the extra pad.
Ive been using it this way for over a week now and so far its ALOT better. |

I got a bolster with a manual hand pump. I also finally got more used to the car and found a better position for the steering wheel/seat, etc.
But I also just was so used to my old car, had if over 5 years, longerst ever. Was a 2005 Sentra with SE-R seats. Last edited by red2009se; 11-08-2010 at 12:25 AM. |

Well then thats what mine needs. Ide like to take it apart and bend that bar a little so that it would still be comfortable and idde be a little further back into the seat also.
Does anyone know what size torx bit to use to remove the seats? |

I had a similar fix. I bought a seat cushion from Menard's - in the hunting section. It is made of a firm foam similar to a wrestling mat. I put it on the back of the seat. It had a loop and Velcro strap I strung to the back of the seat bars. It pushes me forward in the seat about an inch and I don't feel that bar anymore. I cheap seat cover is next to make it look better. For less that $6 it at least fixes the comfort issue.
I had a 2000 Contour and the seats were so great- I wish they would fit the Focus. It is my only complaint with the car. I tried other car cushions but they did not fix the issue. The key was to push my butt a little more forward. I have the 2002 Wagon FYI. I don;t think it is a bar that is the issue, but wear the seat seam is. |

If I adjust the height of the seat bottom so that my lower back is in the most comfortable position on the seat back, then my butt gets sore. If I adjust it for comfortable butt support, my back ends up hurting.
I only get bothered by it on long road trips. All the SVT seats I have seen were worn out already. I haven't seen a SVT seat in decent condition, they seem to wear out faster. |

svt seats worth it. I have back problems and I swaped my SES seats of my 05 zx5 for leather/red seats from an svt. No more back pain. :)
