I second that man! I love driving around downtown in my small town and hearing the sound of the shifter echo off the buildings and parked cars. I also totally agree that the heavy, mechanical feeling of the shifter is one of the major reasons I bought this car, too. Also, I like your signature. I have that same quote in my Facebook profile.

i just did this and have mixed opinions about it. i like the fact that it has a lighter feel when shifting, but doesnt shift as smooth as it used to. i'm gunna drive with it off for a little longer and if i dont like it im gunna put it back on.

Leave the weight off but upgrade to a TWM weighted shift knob...you'll love it, trust me!

The best thing you can do to the counterweight is remove it, drill out the weight from the mount with a 3/8" bit, and stack 15g fender washers on. The stock weight is around 200g, I found the ideal weight with a short throw shifter was 130g, or 7 washers + M10x1.25x30mm bolt. Get all zinc platted stuff from Homo Depot and it'll look good, too.

The benefit of using washers is you can customize the weight until you find the right oomph to pull through the gears. We all have different expectations.

It's too crunchy and rough for my liking w/o the counter weight. Probably going to put it back on.
