Ford EU has confirmed New Durashift 6-speed for the European 1.6 EcoBoost and Duratorq units only. We are trying to figure out what kind of mechanical transmission will be offered for the N-American 2.0 DI Ti-VCT155hp unit.

Do you have any info about engines weight, current 1.6 Sigma weights around 85 kg. Diesel 1.6 109 hp is 98 kg I think?
I think he misspoke. I'm reading 6MT everywhere else.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Question: Since the new Focus dashboard only has one small LCDin the gauge cluster, will it be a similar display to the one in the video on the right or different altogether?

What will be the functionality of the one you can control without accessing the larger touchscreen? Music/mobile apps?

Can you play DVDs on the MyFord touch interface (obv not in the gauge cluster, but if I have a passenger in the car, a 8" screen would probably accomodate quite nicely..)

with a little bit of research, it looks like if you want to play video you have to use the line-in function in the center console. IMO, doesn't make much sense unless I permanently install a conventional DVD player somewhere in the trunk and run the cables... If a passenger had a portable DVD player with them wouldn't they just watch it? Hmm, do normal DVD players have a lot of problem with skipping?

Just checked it out and it looks like you can play DVDs via the video-in function, which makes less sense than using a device to do so like the iphone or ipod, etc. Honestly, the myford touch system is a major draw and until I read about it, I was going to buy the new Jetta seeing as I really enjoy my current 1.8T GTI.

I asked Fords Mark Schirmer and his reply was "We have a five-speed manual at launch in North America.

The small LCD display in the current European Focus is used
- as a trip computer
- for selecting steering mode (for EHPAS-equipped cars)
- as a thermometer
- for enabling/disabling ESP
- for showing the selected gear (for cars with automatic transmissions)

The larger display is the multimedia center (GPS-navigation, DVD-player, FM radio, phone).

The 2012 Ford Focus has been (once again) developed in Germany. That's why I believe that the functionality of displays will remain the same as it is in the current European Focus.

All right, now we can sort things:
USA
2.0 155 hp - 6 Powershift / 5 speed manual
EU
1.6 Duratec 105/125 hp - 5 speed manual
1.6 Ecoboost 150/180 hp - 6 powershift / 6 manual

Ecoboost 2.0 is currently available in S-Max, Galaxy and Mondeo only with new 6 powershift transmission, there's no info about 2.0 EB with 6 speed manual.

But I think ST/RS will have tuned 2.0 Ecoboost with manual gearbox

5spd = BS

Hooray for either revving 3000+ at 70mph (oops) and/or having a snail pace to 60.

(Tall vs short gear ratios)
