No. Turn off the ignition and try hooking things up in this order:

Plug in Xcal to the OBDII port;
Plug in the USB cable to your laptop before LiveLink has been opened;
Open LiveLink;
Turn key in ignition two clicks (don't start engine yet);

This should prompt a dialogue box in LiveLink asking if you want the ECU to confirm the configuration. Hit "okay" or "yes."

You should then be able to pick the pid's that you want and then proceed to start the engine and data log.

When I start LiveLink I get this message

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Could not load file or assembly 'wdpai_dotnot1010, Version=10.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

I have to admit that error message is new to me. Here are a couple of suggestions, although I'm not sure if I'm even on the right track:

• Make sure you're running the most current (and appropriate) firmware and device software;
  
• Try connecting the cables, turning on the ignition, and loading LiveLink in different orders than have previously been tried;
  
• Right click on the LiveLink icon, go to the properties tab, and make sure you're not running the program in some kind of "compatability mode."

If these don't work, I would suggest contacting Blivit by PM (private message) tomorrow. He's on this site and works for SCT. He's usually able to resolve problems pretty quickly.

By the way, did you get your tune from Tom? If so, he offers a way to access your computer remotely and he can configure things for you.

Here's a quote from Blivit to some others who were having problems. His suggestions might benefit you as well:

"Do you any of our other programs installed? (updater, advantage etc?) If so, are they open and running at the same time? If yes, try closing them. Check in your task manager too to see if any other instances of any SCT programs are still running.

If not, go into device manager with your X3 plugged in. Look for anything with a yellow exclamation point next to it. Also, look for an entry labeled "jungo." There should be 2 items within that if the driver is working properly. If there are any yellow exclamation points or you do not see "jungo" or the two items that are supposed to be listed under jungo are not there then you have a driver issue. To fix that you can reinstall any of our programs for the X3(updater is the easiest) and it will reinstall the driver."

I hope one of these ideas gets you up and running.

This means that livelink is missing a file in it's directory. This can happen if the driver install fails. It is looking for the file "wdapi_dotnet1010.dll" Look in your livelink folder for that file. If it is not there you can do a few things to get it back:

-remove livelink and reinstall or
-install the updater program from our website then go to that folder and copy the file to the livelink folder

not trying to thread jack but i just tried this with my xcal 2 and no luck.. mine does nothing when i turn on the car.. i have downloaded live link and i believe the device software i need.. when i hit the graph on the upper left it tells me open device failed and then gives me device initialization failed, check connections. then it says please enter ECM ID (strategy): . so i disconnected everything like 5 times and all i get is the same thing every time.. what gives?
