agreed on everything you said, especially the working first part! we almost always have a lunch break and then get 5 more runs each so either way i learn a lot from others. i prefer to work first either way. (spoiled, we get 10 runs each minimum every event except nationals and prosolo.

i am looking for a second set of wheels and tires as we speak, i don't want to go too cheap on tires since when purchased new they aren't too too much more for a decent set. i'm looking at this set up that will be 1k mounted.. it may seem like a lot but if i'm going to spend 300-400 on a used set i might as well invest that much in a new lighter wheel and tire that i actually want. (just crazy that way..)

well, if you can afford it definatly get what you want...

i would look at a smaller wheel size if you can find it.. keeps rotational mass down or something like that...

A breakdown of all the classes a focus can compete in:

All focus models are in H stock, including the SVT

You would also find them in ST and maybe STX if you through a LSD in there.

SVT's go into DSP, all others focus models in FSP.

Obviously, they would be in SMF, if you so chose to add a turbo or something, and after that, you would be up there in EP

^^^I'm wondering how long that'll last (DSP vs FSP), given the fact that all models are in H-Stock now.

i'm planning on getting a 16" wheel for sure. as for tire 225/50/16 is what i'm looking at.. 45 would be sick but not much options there..

sweet Bill thanks for that!!!
so that means if my car eats a 2.3 then i'll still be in ST right?? since it follows the rule "same line, it's fine" right?

^^^What width 16" wheel?
If it's a 7", a 225 will be a bit "pinched" on it, and you'll likely be better off (and faster) with a 215/45/16.
Gearing would also be better with the 215/45/16, as the 225/50/16 is one tall mother. (a hair shy of 25")
And, don't forget that bigger tire is probably going to be 4lbs heavier...
I see so many people get all concerned about wheel weight, and then they throw some tires on that are 5lbs heavier than their stock tires.

FWIW, this is what I've been running:

7.5 is what i was shooting for actually.
i remember that thread! i looked it over while searching for tire and wheel combo threads. the courses we have a normally not too short.. we've only had one that has been the rest have been pretty big. like 70 seconds+ and the schedule shows a ton more of that.

ST classes do not allow for update/backdate (same line theory). You can change engines, however, if they were availible in your actual car (same year, model etc.)--the caviat is that if the other engine came with different interior trim, or sunroof, or stereo or whatever--you have to change that too. All or none...no pickin' and choosin'.

alright, 5 events down, plenty more to go. i feel horrible about not attending the pro and national tour that my region hosted down in wendover, nv. oh well maybe next year.

some of you may know that i picked up an SVT not too long ago, so that's what i'll be racing from here on out. the zx3 is now my DD.
i had my first event in it on memorial day, and it didn't go too well!
first off, i could not get a launch down for the life of me.. a couple of times i forgot to turn off the fake t/c button, but even when i did remember it still didn't work out too well. i know a large part of why i didn't do well is because i'm not really use to the svt, i will work on this before our next event.
coming from my zx3 which has a better/stiffer suspension, a sts, a dogbone, and an exhaust!! (plus other lil goodies)
the svt shifter is damn tall! and the reason i mention exhaust is because i can't really hear the svt, it's pretty quite, meaning i can't read the motor and tell where it's at. also, the SVTs first gear seems to be a ton longer then my zx3.. (pretty sure it is) that kinda made my head scratch on the course lol.

with time i will get it down though!

i read that a tune would help with acceleration, but unfortunetly tunes aren't legal in my class. .

The bog at launch, just going to happen. I'll have one or two events a year that I never take it out of first gear the whole run. They don't have much go coming out of a corner when the RPM's get low.
