I'm not going to bicker about this because it pretty much comes down to driver preferance and what is proper for the lay of the stages. Some people prefer the short gearing to pull them out of hairpins but they'll have issues with wheelspin. Other people prefer taller gears to effectivly carry momentum and have tractionable power in most situations but they may sacrifice a slight bit of acceleration out of hairpins or at the start. Shorter gears often make the car feel faster because the revs increase quicker and you have to shift sooner, that is why in stock form low power cars are given short gears. But that doesn't necessarily translate to faster stage times. Driver A may score faster times with short gearing and slower times with tall gearing while driver B may be the opposite.
