I drive to West VA a lot and will downshift in the mountains to save brakes. If the grade isn't too bad, I will just click it out of overdrive. If it is a little steeper and I'm not going too fast, I will actually pull it into 2nd. Don't put it in neutral though. It isn't too bad but shouldn't be done all of the time. Don't down shift it manually to gain power when driving in normal conditions.

To get rid of a lot of the heat problems with the ATX, I put an external ATX cooler from B&M on my Contour. They had a lot of ATX problems because of the severe inefficiency of the Torque Converter.

I've actually replaced a few transmissions, tried to repair one but the case was messed up where the bearing spun against it after it broke.. but it was cool to take one apart and see how it all worked.

I think an important part of driving for sport means knowing what exactly the clutch does.
