Agreed. The powertrain options are a bit disappointing as well.

haha, everyone getting pissed about no performance model yet makes me laugh

FYI, its a Focus. Don't get me wrong I love my SVTF but if i want to really have a blast I'll take out my mazdaspeed miata or one of my Ducati's. The SVTF is great fun to drive and I love it for that, but it is a around town car. Yes you can tune/mod the hell out of a focus and get something fast as hell and fun, but I would venture a guess that racing a focus is something that maybe 1% of the focus market is looking for. The SVTF is a blast on back roads too, but its still based on a Focus, its not meant to rival a porsche, or Evo, or STI or whatever some of the posters on here are demanding.

One of my good friends has a 04 red focus sedan, he doesn't enjoy it, its a car to get him from point A to point B. He has no idea what horsepower he has. I think he is fairly representative of the avg Focus buyer.

FWIW I really like the new focus, I am apprehensive to see a curb weight number, but we'll see. I like that Ford has upped the quality over all, honestly the base Focus in the past has left a bit to be desired. I think they elevated their market just a tad but I imagine they will have a cheap no options version to appease the "i just need a car" crowd and a loaded nice Focus for the people wanting something more.

Far as performance goes, this is huge, as Tbones said, they now have no excuse for not bringing over RS like performance. The Foci made in Michigan starting end of this year will be virtually identical to the eruo focus. That makes bringing an RS/SVT to the US all that much more likely. Also the director of RS is now in Michigan and directs SVT/RS performance division globally, that helps too

And far as AWD goes keep dreaming. The RS can put down 300 hp and 325 ftlbs to the front wheels, with the help of the revoknuckle, specifically because Ford RS decided against an AWD car. Added weight and drive train loses were not deemed worth it if it can be done with FWD.

I was pissed about the new mazdaspeed 3 not having AWD, but thats a little different. Mazda had the Mazaspeed 6 that used the same engine with an AWD platform, when they completely re-designed the 3 for 2010 they should have pulled the MS6 drivetrain design off the shelf and designed the new 3 to be able to fit it with as little mods as possible.

In the case of Ford, they have a really nice RS already built and selling, why would they ever invest in AWD for the Focus? Especially if they don't want to get in a performance race with Subie or Mitsu. SVT/RS is such a small segment of the Focus range it would never be worth it to create an AWD direct competitor to the STI or Evo MR, in fact I would say it would be stupid to try. It would be bad marketing to start something and lose. Ford has bigger plans then trying to outsell the STI with a new Focus SVT/RS.

To me this is pointless. They haven't even released all of the specs on various trim levels, etc. yet...

dont like the 4dr hatch. it looks like a wagon. the brakes lites are a no no. the mk1 4dr hatch still looks the best(svt). 4dr looks like a mini taurus. not bad but it should have its own look. no pics of 2dr hatch focus. does that mean no sport version. how much better can this car get with aerodynamic kit. will we have to wait 2 yrs before seeing a performance model (svt,rs). maybe technology wise this is an awesome car but there has to be a package deal (beauty and brains and athletism). i think ford FAILED WITH THIS 2011 FOCUS.

You guys also need to remember, the original Focus came out in 2000, SVT not until 2002. So wait two more years for a performance one, you have no right to bitch before then.

We have every right to bitch...
Its a new body style but the Focus has been around for 10 years here.
Thats ike saying when the Mustang changes a body style,we should have to wait for a performance version.
Its still a Mustang.
Its a global version,but still a Focus.
The RS is in Europe.
Its in Mexico.
Why isnt it here???
Why should we have to wait a couple years to get what everyone else allready has in other parts of the world,if its a global product?

the RS is based off of the mk2 focus. europe has had the mk2 since 2004. they waited 4-5 years for the RS. the mk3 RS is not available anywhere.
