Brake Problem

After replacing the pads and rotors on the front I ran into a problem.

Keep in mind i have not bled the brakes because i did not detach any brake lines. I also did not see any brake fluid leak from anywhere.

The pedal would travel with no response until it was about 2 inches from the floor then it would engage the brakes just as normal. I am thinking its a problem with just having to bleed the brakes and for whatever reason i have air in the lines, or its a problem with the master cylinder. I also noticed that the emergency brake light would come on if i were to rapidly press on the brake pedal, mind you that I noticed the light come on after I cleaned my rear drum brakes. Has anyone had a similar problem?

sounds like you didn't pump your breaks up and preset the self adjusters (if you did the rears) before driving.

so I should just undo the rear drums again reset the adjusters and it should be good?

you should check your brake fluid level before anything. there is also a sensor in the resivior that uses the light.

I looked and the fluid level is up past max

Then yes more than likely your rear pads are not contacting the drums. In theory you can drive in reverse and hit the brakes several times and it should self adjust. But i find it easier (on most cars) to just adjust the self adjusters so they are fairly close.

Pulling your ebrake also adjusts the rear drums from what I have been told.

two things:

1. i put the the front brake pad clip that holds it onto the caliper on wrong so it wasnt letting the entire caliper grip onto the rotor.

2. the rear had not been self adjusted as was mentioned above.
