Another thought occured to me. Don't confuse a skilled driver with a good driver.

* A skilled driver can turn excellent lap times on a race track.

* A good driver is what a lot of us have been defining - courteous, conscious of weather, obeying the rules of the road (um... speed limits notwithstanding)...

The two are not necessarily related at all. You can be a skilled driver and still be a BAD driver. And, you can have relatively low skills yet still be a GOOD driver - a good driver knows his limits, and if his limits are low, he knows enough to stay out of my way!
