does anyone know what the threading on the mtx-75 shift knob is? I am thinking of cutting it down and re-threading the end...

after doing this, my shift boot is too tight to snap it back into the center console. If I put it back in, I will shift into third or something and it will pop out because the boot gets too tight and pulls it out as I move the shifter. you guys get this problem with yours?

This needs to be stickied! I trimmed everything up and even took some off the black cable thread thingy. My boots a tad tight but it doesnt pull out, try moving it back down here and there till its better. Mine isnt perfect, but this is the best freebie mod ever! Soon as i get to a PC that lets me give rep..u guys are for sure getting some. I was really surprised at how well this worked. Shifts are much shorted and..well...better!

dont know if anyone else mentioned it but i have a 05 and did this and it worked pretty good for being free! haha My only thing is that it cancelled out my reverse lock out cause it raised everything up to high. I ended up putting the steeda short in with got rid of it anyways. So if for whatever reason you tend to think you have 6th or you have a buddy driving it watch out incase it takes your out to. Cool write up though.

What is the difference between this mod and a real STS. What are the advantages of buying an aftermarket STS?

this has been asked over 100 times and a simple search would bring that up, the A to you Q is the pivot point. the STS is a great mod . ive had the chopped down stocker and then i bought the steeda STS and it was like night and day, more stiffer, shorter throws, over all a great peice if you already have the dogdone mount.

Actually from what I understand an aftermarket STS doesn't raise the pivot point much higher than this. Considering you have to trim the shift boot about the same amount for either the mod or a "real" STS, the difference (in my opinion) is negigible compared to the cost differential. Would an extra fraction of an inch (that probably wouldn't affect the throw noticably) be worth $110? It's a judgement call.

Although, I can't speak for the 08 and up years.

I have a Steeda sts in my 09 and it made a HUGE difference. The throw is much shorter and more stiff. Love it
