97k kms and 2nd motor 50k kms ago but that was fords fault not mine ... they did an oil change but forgot the oil so it ran " kinda funny " off the hoist an then a rod ... 5 days later i had a new 2.0 Dura Crate motor an i was rolling again , ever since its break in session its been kicking ricer @$$ for the last 2 yrs i ended up parking it for nearly 8 months because of a charging issue that is still a mystery but on its 4th alt now an seems to be fine so far ( 4th as in the first 3 fried to a crisp with no warning ) i picked up a rebuild kit from a local starter/alt shop an did one my self so far 3k kms on it an doing fine ( last 2 replacements from ford lasted 20 minutes.an the other a week )

Other than that good motor.

my ONLY grief with the 2.0/2.3L is they dont like boost with out some SERIOUS tuning but are an absolute beast N/A. Basic bolt-ons / mild tune makes it a really fun car to drive.

Update: the '05 ZX3 has reached 240K miles

Daily driver, 2005 black ZX3 (2.0L Duratec, 5spd manual).

Started being noisy on the highway; will have my wheel bearings checked.

Changed the original 5 year old battery last month.

Changed the coolant last year with Zerex G5 (yellow long life).

Changed the driver's seat because one side of the seatback frame broke as I was reaching to get something from the rear seats. Had to drive around for two weeks with a wooden board supporting the right-hand side of the seatback.

well its good to see high mileage on our motors. theres a lot of threads that post "oh yea do this mod" or whatever, no one ever really does a follow up down the road to see if it lasted.

Mine is an 05' ATX with 89K. Only major issues that had to be done was the alternator at 70k, and spark plugs at 67k. Besides basic maintanenance as an changing the belt, tensioner and idler pulley, she runs great. She is taken on a daily 110+ miles commute and purrs like a kitty. No major issues, and I use Mobil 1 5w20 with OEM oil filter.

i agree that the engine will last awhile if you take care of it, however if you start adding a signifigant amount of power to any engine, it will wear out alittle faster. Need more maint. I knew guys who would go crazy with mods and boost/nos etc, and would have to replace parts before 100K more power=more stress. If you can deal with that than fine go ahead, but you cant afford an engine, than dont mod your car. But heres my question if you have 25k to mod a car, why did u buy a focus?
