I don't really believe the hole story my self. The fact is that he was trying to change the timing cover, it was broken were the volts to the motor mount goes and in the process he didn't lock the timing.

when he gave me the car the timing cover, timing chain, timing chain tensioner and cam's were off and you could see the all the valves in the head. He also gave me a shoe box full mix from the engine parts. that is way Im leaning on pouting an other engine.

Only differences I could think of, might be accesories that bolt up on the engine. Injectors might also be different, but nothing that would be impossible. I'm always suspicious of broken engines, go with the 05 2.3.

Update

Today I went for the 2005 engine but it was gone and got a 2004 with 14,000 mi.

tanks every one for the advice i recibed.
