HOW TO: Install VF-Engineering P/S Mount
HOW TO:
Here is how to install the NEW VF-Engineering P/S engine mount for the 2.0 and 2.3L duratec engine! OK... first open the big box from Focussport(only supplier at this time)... first assemble the mount onto the new bracket with the supplied bolt and hex-bolt both with lock nuts. make sure the gold top bolt is still slightly loose so you can adjust the middle portion still. ---- remove the 10mm bolt at the front of the coolant tank... then take a flathead screw driver and pry on the tank from the shock tower on the back of the coolant tank to remove it from the clip/bracket. now place the coolant tank on the intake manifold... thats where mine sat the hoses had enough bend in them and that seemed the safest place. now... make sure you have the engine supported from underneath, i used an alluminum low profile jack with a eurethane spacer... so i didnt marr my oil pan... jack up the engine slightly so you can see it move... now remove the 3 15mm bolts on the black bracket... after that remove the 2 19mm nuts on the studs from the engine block... now what i had to do so the engine mount would loosen was jack it up alittle more, because the engine mount is actually at an angle when installed... so jack the engine up slightly and the engine mount will get loose off the studs... then lift it out... now place the new engine mount thats assembled into place... now bolt down the 3 15mm bolts... and the 2 19mm nuts onto the studs... i just tightened down the bolts as much as i could, but VF engineering has torque specs and so does ford... so if you want to get ahold of them from the manuals and/or the vf engineering instructions. i used locktite on the 3 15mm bolts that go into the frame... and dont forget to tighten the gold bolt on the top of the mount! after its all bolted down.. lower the engine with the jack/or support how ever you did it... then reinstall the coolant tank with the 10mm on the side and the clip/braket on the rear.. ---- i have all 3 engine mounts on my car now... all VF engineering.. and after this 3rd mount was installed you can REALLY REALLY feal the engine now... its almost like when i used to ride 4-wheelers... you can feal the vibrations through the steering. feet. butt etc... but the only bad vibrations are when the engine is slowing down from like 2100 to 1300RPMs... other than that it feals about the same... once you get going, you can really feal the power getting down to the ground now.. i would deffinately rank this mount about as good as the rear mount! thats how much of a difference it made! and of course it looks oh so pretty sitting under the coolant tank. ---- also as a side note... i did not add any pictures to this write up only because you can see all the bolts and its pretty straight forward on how to do this.... if you can change a tire you can do this without instructions.

I know this is the Duratec performance area, but since this is a how-to for the P/S VF mount, I thought this would be good knowledge to those people with SPI's looking to upgrade their mounts.
The VF P/S mount for the zetec does NOT fit the SPI. I learned this the hard way today. The mounting bolts are farther apart on the SPI. Here's the proof:

i just installed all 3 mounts from CFM. i replaced the VF in the rear.
WOW!!! i hope that the vibrations die off a bit after some time. cuz its crazy how much the car vibrates now. although now it becomes harmonic at some points while accelerating. i can hear a whining noise. like previously mentioned, it is like driving an off-road car. the vibrations are everywhere. ill try to update this after the mounts are "broken in" did i mention that they look saaweeet!

Scrammer, I've had the C-F-M rear motor mount done in mine for about 2 weeks and it still vibrates like crazy . So I can't imagine putting all the 3 in like you did .
I have narrowed my vibrations down to 2 points 1 is around my steering column somewhere and the other is in my arm rest ...

Ive done the D/S one- just support the tranny with a jack, unbolt, install and torque it down. ive got the steeda though which is wonderful except for the fact that it was too tall for the stock battery box.

Wow and to think I'd really like to do the "dogbone" mount with urethane bushings.
After hearing about this much NVH after going to more than 1 bushing I'll reconsider. My DD is too important to me and comfort is a big factor...don't think I can handle all that vibration on a daily basis. Nice how to though! |
