about a month maybe? cant remember. atleast 1 oil change.. seems to be fine for reals... if you live in a cold climate, game over. i live in alabama, and the first freeze, transmission was froze.. pushed in inside to let it thaw for a day. bump.

That is quite strange, it actually should be better in the freezing months then the original oil, at least that's what is advertised. I think I'll go with the Royal Purple in this case. Thanks.

No, that's exactly correct for Redline MTL.
^^^It's 70W80 gear oil...thick stuff...too thick for cold climates IMHO.

Our transmission calls for fully synthetic ATF type fluid...much thinner than the MTL:

The RP Synchromax is a much better match for our transmission:

I've had RP for over 10k miles now, switched when I changed the clutch(now @ 83k miles) and shifts really smooth like a hot samarai sword through butter .

Nice write-up BTW(2 years old?).
+1 rep.

I didnt figure it would be a problem since I live in Alabama.... shifting is like dragging a knife thru pudding... so smooth.

Yes but 75W-80 is common for a lot of cars plus he lives in Alabama. I had MTL in a GTI VR6 transmission for a month (before the differential failed - I don't know if it had anything to do with it) and it was silky smooth all the time.
The original Motorcraft fluid has a weight of 75W-90
http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...ission%20Fluid
Anyway.....
Where do you have that scan of Maintanance page? My 2003 SVT Owner MAnual supplement says Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid and nothing more. There is no mention of MERCON except for the power steering.
Do you know what is the weight for the RP Syncromax?

The Getrag box is different from the MTX-75 and calls for Mercon V ATF. Out of consusion, I called Ford Racing Performance (formely SVT) for guidance. They confirmed Mercon V ATF.

Thanks for the write up. I just replaced my tranny fluid with synchromax just yesterday, I also changed my engine oil to RP with a PureOne oil filter. Im loving it.
