I wouldn't use anything else but Royal Purple in a Getrag tranny.

The 2000-2003 BMW M5 and 540i also use a Getrag manual and there have been epic discussions on the BMW forums on this topic... the verdict is that anything but Royal Purple in a Getrag could ruin certain tranny components (ie, no Redline or Amsoil).

Even though I have Redline in my ZX3 (with good results), I took this well researched advice with my 540i and used Royal Purple. It has made a noticable improvement in the shifting and, after 25,000km of driving, it is still shifting great.

I will be putting RP in my SVT soon.

Thanks for the information. I thought this was going to end up being an expensive maintenance bill from the shop. I give it a try. As RocSVT and others have mentioned, is there any "flushing" involved / necessary?

This is more of a drain/refil. Transmission Fluid Exchange sounds better, but stilla good write up none the less!

Flushing is a process done to automatic transmissions, and is not needed (nor can it really be done) on a manual transmission.
A drain and fill (or fluid exchange as 02SVTsilverstreak refers to) is all that's necessary.

Not to hijack this post, but I have run Mobil 1 ATF for the past 45,000 miles without a problem. Smooth shifts, etc. But, reading the various posts regarding what fluid (ATF, motor oil, manual fluid) to run through the SVT gearbox, I decided to find out for myself what the manufacturer specifies (and yes, I know the 2004 SVT manual is contradictory).

I called the Ford Performance Group (what used to be Ford SVT) and asked, explaining that the manual states both manual fluid and ATF. The reply was that the SVT 6-speed Getrag tranny is NOT the same as the MTX-75 and yes, it does call for Mercon V fluid - which IS ATF. With that, I'm sticking with what I'm using (although the Royal Purple ATF is tempting, but is it worth an extra $3 per quart?

I switched to Mobil1 ATF a while back as well and couldn't be happier. Being cheaper is a plus as well. Thanks for the confirmation by calling the svt hotline.

How long have you had the MTL in there? I'm interested in the Redline fluid and would like some feedback on the feel of the shifting also. Thanks.
