The last two events I've been to have required me to go into 2nd gear. Which in turn gave me smoother acceleration through some turns. High slalom speeds and turns that have made my svt kick the rear end out and slide are what I've had to deal with running STS. Another competitor is in a 03 red GTI with VR6 in it. His torque makes me feel like I'm out classes but I beat him every time.

HS would have been cool to run the stock svt in though.

Even in GS, the car is competitive.

Granted the Cooper S is better balanced (which is why they are the national champion), but depending on the course, it is a give or take with the SVT. We give them a run for their money on the DOT race tires.

I AX using the Hoosier A6 and I run a 225/40ZR17 and they fit with no issue. I've also run the Toyo with 235/35ZR17 on the stock wheels with no issue.

Looking at my raw times, the SVT in my club would have been perhaps too strong, but we don't have much serious HS competition.

Why is the Cooper with the LSD allowed to compete in stock class? I know with Miata's only the inferior Vicious type LSD are allowed in ES, the Torsen type throws you out of stock, even if it came stock.

That is an inaccurate statement. OE LSDs are legal in stock class. There are certainly cars on the stock exclusion list (e.g. Cobra R) but that is due to limited production numbers, not equipment. Torsens, if OE, are perfectly legal.

Yep.

While I can't speak to the Cooper, I can tell you about the Camaro.

In 96-97, Chevrolet released the 1LE package Camaro. 3:73 rear, Adjustable Koni Shocks (FROM THE FACTORY) pan-hard set up and heftier front suspension.

SCCA classed it in F Stock.

For me, driving a conventional Firebird, there was no competition.

That aspect of the rules...SUCKS.

Then how come ES Miata's can only have the factory LSD and not the Torsen?

Well, anyway, I don't think it's a good idea. I'll bet you that somewhere at the bottom of this heap is somebody with an SVT who isn't winning as much as he'd like to and rather than work on his skills, wants to just face easier competition.

Are they saying that the SVT is no better than the focus?

Historically, HS was referred to as "Automotive's Unwanted" here in the DC region.

Part of the problem is one that we all gripe about. A lack of low end power. The Coopers and Celica GT's have that in spades.

Are they better than an SVT? Dunno, but they seem to be the more popular and more competitive.

Is an SVT no better than a real focus? No, its better, but at the same time, most people don't have the level of understanding that we do about the little cars.

I'm sure part of it is that the focus was offered with a 2.3

How often is it that a model is split into different classes based on what motor the trim has?
