Question No locking fuel cap on new focus

Hi, it concerns me that my new focus does not have a locking fuel cap but has a racing car type filler which has a deep recess where dirt of any kind could settle or be put by vandals, also the flap that does not lock now could also be broken off when parked in unmanned parking areas or by vandals out for a bit of mischief.

You could always put a lock hasp on the fuel door, would look dumb as hell, but would solve your problem.

yeah, especially with todays gas prices...im afraid the syphoning of gas with make a comeback. I went to an auto parts store and bought a new fuel cap with key. I havent changed it yet, but i will soon. I will have to cut the plastic strap which is attached to the current cap.
BTW the lockable fuel cap wasnt cheap!

most cars today have a checkball in the base if the fillerneck, in case of rollover. This makes it impossible to siphon w/o taking something apart.

Chilibonze.......BEFORE cutting the plastic strap/tether, check the new cap.......it should have the groove in the cap and you just transfer the new cap onto the strap. You have to work at it a bit, but the tether can be "rolled out of" the groove of the original cap and then can be "rolled into" the groove of the new cap. I've bought Stant locking caps for both a '96 Taurus and my '05 Focus, and was able to just transfer the strap over.

Uhh. My 2002 Focus doesn't have any kind of locking cap or door either. I haven't really had any kind of locking cap or door in forever that I can recall. But if you are that concerned, I know that BatInc (www.batinc.com) sells a really slick looking fuel door that locks. The look is very much like a fuel door on an airplane. Its in their Focus section in the Exterior part of their catalog.

^^^ Now that you mention it, there was a thread on here about the Aussie locking fuel fill doors. That applied up to the '07 models, I'm not even sure they have our '08 there (wouldn't bet on it), but it's worth looking into...
