ROLL CAGE question for my porsche
http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant...ory_Code=AP080
or http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant...ory_Code=AP080 basically full out cage for road race, or roll bar. I do autox, and the occasional hpde, but would like to road race in the future. Opinions? |

Wow, those are both really cheap, I thought roll cages of that caliber would have much higher in cost. You might as well go big and get the first one, it's only a couple hundred more and would most likely give you less flex and more protection than the latter. They both look easy to install as well.

Since you are VERY close tot he DC area, I would suggest that you contact the following organizations. OG Racing. Based in Sterling, they are Porsche specialists, but have expanded beyond. Ask for either Bill or Matthew. Tell them that Tom Newman referred you. Piper Motorsports. They are based in Manassas, VA. They build 80-90% of the local SCCA racer cages. They are a little expensive, but the fit and finish are really incredible. You would never know that the cage didn't come standard with the car. Mitch Piper built the cage for our Grand Am car.

I will tell you that for either option, you will pay double the price of the cages you posted.
The difference is each is custom manufactured and welded into the car.

Well, The autopower have great fitment from prior use, and I plan to weld the cage in. I'll give them a call and see what there prices are if it can be done for under a grand then I'll go with them, else I can weld up the autopower much cheaper and will go that route, probably the 6 point one. Awesome I get to wear a helment to go to work

I've never been a fan of bolt in cages for one reason, the front vertical bar never follows the "A" pillar very well at all. They always seem to block precious view and obstruct leg room since there always well in front of the dash board. A decent welded in cage will go through the dash and allow great accessibility. Also double check with your sanctioning group. Welding a bolt in cage can be a problem as it does change the structural loading on the joints and bars. There's a company in europe that specializes in bolt in cages as well and also sells weld in pre cut cages that are considered much better than the auto power ones. I've seen lots of Porsches at PCA events with them. They're FIA rated which is accepted by all sanctioning bodies. I'll try to track down the name as it escapes me right now.
