Want to buy tach / need help with tach

Hi. I drive a 2004 ZTS 5-speed with the Duratec 2.3. Ford decided it didn't need a tachometer, but I disagree. I've purchased a cluster with a tach, but it must be from an SVT/Zetec because the plug in the back does not fit mine. Mine has the gray one and the one I purchased has a white one... the white one is a little smaller than the gray one.

I tried to post this in the WTB forum but I don't have the proper privileges? Odd. Maybe I'm too much of a FF newbie.

Anyway, I'm very, very interested in purchasing a factory tach (that will fit, of course). If you have one or know where to find one please let me know.

If not, I'm interested in buying an aftermarket one and installing it where the SVTs have the Oil/Volt meters (that little coin tray). Does anybody know of a good one that is small enough to fit in that area? I doesn't necessarily have to be an actual gauge, I wouldn't mind if it was digital. The fitment doesnt have to look pretty - I'll take care of that part.

If I get an aftermarket one, am I going to need the ford tach driver too?

Please let me know either way. I appreciate it.

If you can find the actual part # from ford I might be able to locate one, but it is showing me 13 different part #'s and I dont know which is for the dura or zet and which has a tach or not.

Also you have to have a minimun post count before you can list anything in the WTS or WTB forums.

I could take my cluster out and find the # on it, but that's not going to help me since I'm trying to get a DIFFERENT one.

Anybody know the # from the above list?

I stumbled across this page ( http://www.modifiedfocus.com/speedometers_001.htm go to the very bottom) which looks like it can help, except I'm really not sure if I have the PZEV or not. I bought it used and of course they were very hush-hush about where this car came from, and I'm stuck at my desk for another 8 hours so I can't really take a look.

I can deduce that, from the one I purchased which is not compatible, that 1M5F-10849 models are out. Those appear to fit Zetec models (white plug).

That leaves the YS4Z-10849 (not FC) models if I'm not driving around a PZEV, or 3S4T-10849 if I am. Living in the Detroit area... far from Green... I'm betting I do not have the PZEV version. It's certainly not a "performance" quality cluster. Can anybody vouch for the YS4Z models getting along with 2.3 Duratecs?

Where is this information hidden in my car so I can find out, once my shackles are unlocked?
