I got a quick addition to this. I am trying to install a little led above the door open handle cup area to light that up too by wiring it up to the same light power source as the electric window switch lights. Any thoughts on this. It does look ace with a little green glow coming from the top of the cup

Nice write up on the Door Lock LEDs.
I'm not too hip on just stuffing the wire into the socket and hope'n they don't fall out or worst yet they don't corrode over time and stop working.

You need to take a look at my How-to if you want to replace the LED with a different color. I took the switch apart and photographed the LED and its current limiting resistor:

Look at the last photo.
Enjoy

Thanks.
Yes, at least the "Stealth" CAI is, I don't think the Door Lock LED mod is though.

Is this method different/impossible on a sedan with manual windows? I'm no electrical guru by any means, so I got a little confused when you had to run something from the door lock to the window switch (I think...).

I'm not sure if this has already been done yet, but the concept is the same...http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/hitech/rdtch1.htm

So there is already an LED there it just doesn't have power going to it???

Why, oh why would Ford do that...

To save a few damn pennies per car on the production line, evidently.

I can just imagine the meeting now:

"The Mexican union demands an additional 15 minute coffee break - how can we swing it? That's it! We just won't have 'em wire-up the lock-switch LEDs! Brilliant!"
