The SPI's best selling point is its longevity; they're just starting to break in at 100,000 miles and (as already posted) its not uncommon for them to break the 300,000 mile mark. Although this seems to be normal for Ford/Mazda designed four-cylinders; there's a guy on here with over 200,000 miles on a Zetec. As long as you keep up with the routine maintenance on it there's no reason why the engine will fail. The drivetrain is a different story however, esp. with the 4F27E automatics which don't exactly have what I would call a good track record.

lol yup, give them tranniesa lil power and they wreck themselves, stock tho, with no mods at all and frequent tranny flushes they do alright, still fail tho like 50 percent of the time

My Wife just told me the guy that delivers the paper at her work had 500,000 miles on his Escort wagon when it was totaled in a crash. Not 2.0 SPI, but same CVH family.

I would love to get 500,000 miles out of mine .I love driving her and it would give me just enough time to save for a lexus IS.

so i've been looking into trading my wifes worthless accent for a 04 spi base model. Sounds like the engine is good to go !! ? Also it's matched to a five speed...can't beleive ppl have autos in these little cars :-) What do you all think would be a good price for this car from a dealer. It's silver, new tires, new fuel rail, 60k miles, base model, paint in good shape w/ some minor scratches. I've got 107k on my zetec w/ no work so i'm confident that this spi will do just as well if not better.

Perhaps it's a leftover ? I don't konw much about the spi's. The only information online is 2.0L 4 cyl.....I automatically assumed it was a zetec before I looked at it. VIN and carfax report it as a 2004 and it's definitely a spi under the hood.
