How To: Adding an OEM Tachometer Cluster on a 2005-up

I would like to add to this thread. Although I don't own a Focus yet, I have done similar things with a newer F150. Several things run through your cluster and can cause certain things to quit functioning. In my '05 F150, a cluster swap made it so my A/C wouldn't work. To remedy your problems, the cluster needs a reprogram from the dealer. They can't reprogram your miles, but they change the as-built data on the cluster so it will work with your car build.

I would estimate a shop trip to program would probably run about $100. I am not 100% sure this will fix the warning light problems, but this sounds similar to the F150 and that is how I fixed it.

I did this yesterday on my 06. No problems at all aside from the brake light. The electric tape trick fixed that problem. I sat on my cluster for about a month cause I wanted the miles to match, but now that its in, I love it!

its not a kit just replace the one u got with the tach cluster,,,lol,,,kit....haha

where did you get your cluster from?

I just bought an '07 basemodel zx3...no tach obviously....Does the tach work automatically with this swap? I've been told that the basemodel doesnt have the ability to run a tach, something about a tach driver....but i'm new and relatively uneducated on the matter....thanx

when you buy the new gauge cluster cant you just take out your original odometer and replace it with the new cluster's?

^dont think thetll work, most of the stuff is soldered into the board, itd be a bitch to do, well im not sure on the 05+ but on 00-04 it was like that, and i need to order one with a tach i cant standseeing only 2 circles

i dont think id mess with trying to take it apart,,lol,,,might break it,,,unless u just have to much money and in that case i dont think u would have a focus,,lol,,,what if u did change the cluster to one with less miles on ure car,,,how would anyone know the difference when u sold the car if ure the original buyer of the car? just wondering,,cause if u cant tell then how do we all know we did not buy a car with 100k on it,,lol

So basically, the only way to get a tach in the cluster that actually works is by having the cluster reprogrammed by the dealer with your as-built data and milage? Any idea how much that's gonna cost?
