Taking the SVT on the track for the first time...

This weekend I'm doing an open track event that my Cobra Club is putting on. It's being held at Motorsport Ranch-Houston and we are the first group to run on the track. New pads, rotors, brake fluid and oill are all going into the car today. Looking forward to see how the Focus handles and compares to my Cobra

I'll have plenty of pictures to post up Sunday or Monday.

I want to open-track my SVTF but my wife says we have to pay it off first.

I'd be mad if she weren't right about how screwed we'd be if some over-enthusiastic dork in fronts of me spins and I nail him...

That's why autox is so fun...wife gets mad when new tires are talked about (last conversation made it so that I get dedicated racing wheels/tires, so I'm happy with that).

You are absolutely not alone. The ONLY track day I did, my wife came along. She saw two wrecks that day, both involving ambulances. While I convinced her that the ambulance ride is a risk of life, the lack of insurance coverage could not be argued away.

She said the same thing as yours; no track until we own it. THEN we'll argue about the hundreds of bucks it costs...

I paid my car off early...

Here's what mommy should have told you to do when you downshift:
1. Step on the clutch
2. Simultaneously slide the shifter into a lower gear and give the throttle a quick, amazingly precise jab to rev the engine to exactly the rpm it needs to be at in the next gear
3. Quickly let out the clutch

Oh sure, It takes a few thousand tries before you get the timing and precision of your jab just right, but the reward is that you no longer suck.
