2000 Focus ZTS trunk latch

I've read all the posts I can find on trunk latches. None seem to have a solution for my problem. My trunk has stopped opening, with the key, the remote, or the dash release. I suspect there is something wrong with the latch.

My problem is that I can't get in the trunk to fix it! The back seats fold down, but the release is in the trunk. Does anyone know how to get the seats out/down when you can't get in the trunk?

Hmmmm, is there a valet switch on these? My car is at home or I would go look for you.

Valet switch? I bought my car used, and it didn't come with a manual. I have a Chilton's, but you guessed it, it's in the trunk! I'll go look if you tell me what I'm looking for.

Valet switches for trunks come in many forms, Sometimes they are up front by the seat, other times, you guessed it, they are in the trunk. I am just not sure IF the Focus even has one, and I own a ZTS as well.

Can someone else chime in on this? I don't want to send Stacey off on a wild goose chase for nothing.

go to myford.fordvehicles.com and register your vehicle, using your VIN. You can then download an owners manual in PDF format.

Thanks for the tip. I've looked it up, and the manual doesn't indicate any other way, besides the latches inside the trunk, to get the seats down.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What happens when you try to use the key? Does the key turn and nothing happen, or does it seem to be jammed and "unturnable?"

The key turns, it won't open. You can also hear the mechanism when you push either the button on the dash, or the remote. I'm thinking maybe the latch mechanism is broken. I don't think a locksmith will do it, the lock is working fine, it's the latch doohickey that won't let go.
