WRC loses a co driver
I would love to be happy about Solberg's win but it shouldn't have even happened. Michael Park , co-driver to Markko Martin, died in a rally car accident
 . Some of you might know him because he was with Markko at Ford as well.CLICK FOR STORY

My god, I'm very familiar with the guy. Ths is terrible news, and just as so many good things were happening in Wales with McRae's return and all the excellent performances under the conditions, this is a real tragedy.
For those of u who don't know Markko Martin used to drive the Focus up til 05 when he switched to Peugeot, and is considered one of the best rally drivers around. I'm curious to see exactly what happened, well my prayers go out to his family. |

From what I've heard and read, Markko Martin came around a high spend bend and lost control. The car was hit on the passenger side "instantly killing" Michael Park. I was shocked to hear this. In the last five years that I've been watching the WRC, I've seen some horrible wrecks, but no one has ever been killed. It's just very disheartening to hear about something like this with how much safer the sport has become. I just wonder how Markko Martin is handling this right now.

Wow... I loved watching rally races ever since I first saw one in June of 2000. I have also seen some horrible crashes, but never a death had resulted from any of them. The main reason why I wanted my first car to be a Focus (since I was 14) was because of rally races (too bad I didn't get a hatch). Man...
I don't mean to ask such a distasteful question, but what exactly did the car hit to end the co-driver/navigator's life?

When he came around a left bend with speed, the car's passenger side struck a tree. Other than that, the details of the wreck have not been released. I would assume out of respect for the family and the driver.

Wales was extremely slippery this year, many cars had problems. I also wonder how Martin is handling this tragedy. I hope he understands that even though he was driving, accidents do happen and unfortunately so do fatalities.
