Question Tips on removing header heat shield?

Hey all,

with cold weather here and lots of time on my hands, I was wanting to remove my SVT header heat shield and paint it with a hi-temp enamel. The question is, I was wondering if it is possible to remove the heat shield from the engine compartment. It looks like it is wedged in there real tight and if I have to remove other parts to wiggle it out, it might not be worth the hassle...

Also, there are only 5 bolts, right? 4 across the top and one at the bottom/front (behind the radiator), correct?

Any tips would be appreciated...

I was thinking about pulling the shield and wrapping my header with thermal wrap all the way down to the cat and then replace the shield for 2 reasons, 1) keeping the heat in the header is supposed to improve the exhaust flow through the header and 2) it also cuts down on heat built up in the engine compartment.

the paint will NEVER stick
It will last about 10 min.
Im sending mine to http://www.jet-hot.com/
kinda pricey but after you go through all that work you want it to be nice
well If I thought more people were interested in this..I would have taken pictures and started a thread its a pain in the a$$ but it can be done...re vamp pm me or contact me via aim ill help you

maybe you are misunderstanding me....I just want to paint the HEAT SHIELD, not the headers....I see no reason why 600deg.+ enamel wouldn't stay put...

Yeah, the paint should stick as long as the shield is nice and clean before applying it ... at least it should, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't either.

oh ........... well ......... you have your work cut out for you...I had to persuade mine to come out..I dont think you would be able to get it back in with out scratching the paint up

I just browsed your post..then when I seen wd40 link you to my thread I assumed you wanted to paint the header(some people have tried this)
