05 zx5 battery light comes on

The battery light comes on when the car warms up. I put the car in test mode and watched the volts. With the light on sometimes it reads 14 volts and sometimes it reads 12.3 volts. It used to be sporadic but not it happens almost all of the time. I put a new alt. in it 2 years ago along with a new battery. I have put about 25k miles on it since then. The current mileage is 140k. Also, I don't know why Ford but the alt behind the motor and close to the exhaust.

The "battery light" is a charging system fault light and your 12.3 V reading is too low. It should read 14.5V or above in a properly functioning system. If the alternator and battery wiring and connectors shows no obvious signs of problems, it's likely your alt is in need of replacement yet again.

I am installing an alternator tomorrow so I hope it solves the problem.

The dealership wanted $600 to do the alt. So I had my neighbor install it for $120 plus the alt. This seems to have solved the problem.
