2000 ford focus zts catalytic converter and mass air overflow sensor

Can anyone provide me directions on how to replace these two?
Ford wants to charge me $2250 to do this and autozone had the parts for $450.

Help a focus brother out?

The dealership said they were. They checked it out and gave me the $2250 estimate.

I take it you have a couple of CEL codes, if the MAF is bad it would trip a code and a check engine light. Replacing the MAF is simple, two SECURITY torx bits, IDK the size, atleast a 25 or so and then just unplug the sensor wiring harness, plug it into the new one and screw it back on. The MAF is the rectangular black peice connected to the intake tubing right before the airbox. Ill let someone with more experience answer the catalyic problem!

The maf I hear is easy, but they wanted to charge me $800 just to replace that.

That's outrageous. I would contact someone from Ford corporate offices. That's a 10 minute job. I just looked at a dealer price ( just a random search ). They want $227.00 for the part.. That's ridiculous too.

Like others say, get other opinions from other mechanics. Lean over their shoulder while they do the scanning or get it down at Autozone for free. Then you have the codes yourself and can cut out the middleman even worse.

I would confirm there bad before doing anything else , what is it doing , whats the problems

To have a bad MAF and CAT at the same time could happen but would be very rare

Wth.. That's worth more then the car...

Like someone said before MAF is easy.. You can do that in 15min tops..

Catalytic.. Do you have emission testing in your town? If no.. Gut it out or cut it out... If you do have emission... Go
To a muffler shop and it will be much cheaper... Last I check someone was charging me 50 bucks to weld in a hi flow cat in Chicago..

As far as parts... Post a WTB thread and you can find a MAF pretty cheap and cat itll be a hit or miss... Maybe a junkyard
