egg smell

lol so a few years ago i had the dreaded rotten age smell for about a week. just as i was going to take it to the shop for new cat....the smell went away. so i said, "meh" i chalked it up to bad fuel. last night i was reading about how cats can be clogged up for long periods of time and the owner wouldnt even know it. and that it can cause other issues in the car. i always thought that when i a cat went bad it stunk...rattled...and eventually popped on freeway tossing red hot ceramic material into grass on road side causing fires.

whats the deal?

There are several symptoms of a bad cat.
You might notice one symptom, or several.
Just because EVERY symptom is not yet present doesn't mean it isn't bad.
One symptom is usually all you'll get.

When mine went out I was having to floor it just to keep up with normal traffic. When I took it off I could see spots on it where it was turning the metal blue from the extreme heat of the blockage.

the only thing that gets popped out on those freeways are cigarettes.....that will definately get those grass fires started.....and in your state, probably some jail time as well. If the cat's clogged, its with oil res.....not good. Be careful, I've seen overly rich running systems that produce a flamin cat... nothing like fried cat going down the road. I couldn't help myself...

Loss of power was the major symptom when my P/U plugged up. Wouldn't go over 35-40 mph one night, and I hadn't noticed any issue previously. Engine wouldn't rev up even floored, and little exhaust coming out of the tail pipe.

"Rotten Egg" smell seems to come up more often when the Cat isn't warmed up & working right. Could that be involved in either of the cases mentioned?
