exhaust louder over time

Anybody else think the factory exhaust is louder over time, mine seems louder, drones at hiway speeds. Have to turn up music to override it.

How old is your car? I'm curious as mine is still new.

I'm with riparke. That is, the muffler on our 2012 SE has definitely become louder, and it drones at speed. Local Ford dealer says it sounds normal to them, but it's not normal to me—it's quite a bit louder than when new.

While I'm sure that all exhaust systems eventually get louder, I don't expect that to apply after just 5,000 miles. It certainly hasn't with our 2012 Subaru Impreza, purchased one month earlier than the Focus. At the rate this is going, it won't be long before our Focus will be noisier than our 1997 Jeep Cherokee (175,000 miles). And that was never a quiet car.

2013 here with 6k miles and I haven't noticed any difference in exhaust loudness since new. There's no exhaust noise at highway speeds and the only thing I hear when accelerating is engine drone.

Unfortunately, the older I get, the poorer my hearing becomes. It appears to just cancel out.

I can not perceive increase in exhaust note on my Focus.

riparke: Maybe this is endemic to red SE manuals.

I think you are right Skepticaleye. If I'm on a Hiway and I coast ( at 70mph )with the clutch pressed and no gas the car is very quiet. I have about 19000 mile on it now. I'm not a kid that wants a loud exhaust, I'm old and wanting peace and quiet and John Coltrane.

I also have a Ford 2002 Ranger V6 with 212,000 miles, original exhaust and is quieter than the Focus.
