Going to buy first focus

I'm new to this forum so firstly hello everyone.
I'm going to go see a 2002 ZX3 tomorrow and I would just like to know of some common things to look out for in these cars. I know how to work on cars and have some knowledge of how to test for problems.

Only thing is I don't know what to test and what to test for on these cars. I'm more of a mitsubishi/toyota/honda pretty much Asian cars.

Thank you guys in advance!
Forgot to mention that the car has 88,000 miles on it and is a 5 speed manual trans.

Check to see if the timing belt has been done. Since it is a hatchback, and a 02, it has the 2.0 Zetec, amazingly reliable motor. Also at those miles, ask about the clutch and inspect the motor mounts.

What do you mean ask about the clutch, what about it? Is there a recall on it?
Also I know on automatics you can do a powerbrake to check the motor mounts, what would be the easiest way to do it on a manual trans?

Well, if they were a responsible driver, the clutch should be good, but just ask if they have ever had problems with the clutch or if it has been rebuilt. From what I have read, most Focus clutches last around 100-150K, svt owners seem a little more plagued by the clutches though, I wonder why

Aside from two Ford Focus' I've had Volkswagens and one time when the GTI was in for service they actually commented on the factory perfect state of the clutch and that I obviously knew how to drive.

I'm not bragging by any means but extending comments that they can tell how the car is driven by what wear is evident. It was a wonderful compliment and reminded me of my initial training on back roads with my dad and his near religious care of a clutch. Clutch abuse was not tolerated and "riding" the clutch was a cardinal sin. I must be doing something right.

Thank you for informing of us you excellent driving ability. I merely informed him of what to be aware of when looking over a 5 speed equipped Focus. That is a are of concern, and numerous readings and articles of FF allude to this. Did you have anything you want to add to tell him what to look for? Because that was his question, and I was trying to be helpful to the OP.
