Shield (?) rusting off
Hi all,
Been gleaning useful info off these forums ever since I got my 2003 SE 2.0L a few weeks ago, and now I have a question I was wondering if anyone could help with: On the front of the engine there's a piece of metal bolted on, two bolts on top and two on the bottom. Looks like a heat shield, and it has the universal 'do-not-touch' symbol embossed on it, but I can't for the life of me find the exact name or a replacement for it. It's rusted through at 3 of the 4 bolts and is rattling around pretty badly at times. Anyone know exactly what this is and where I can find a replacement, or if I can even just take it off and go without? Thanks much! I can post pics of the part if necessary. Corey |

Heat shield for the exhaust manifold. I would replace it. I took mine off and the heat messed up the paint on my hood a bit. If you can get the screws out you can try to put washers under the screws to quiet the rattles.

Loos like there is one on ebay for 55 shipped. Here is the link. Might be possible to get one at ford. Like said above, I removed my heat shield when I installed a header on my car. I own a civic, and it didn't do anything to my hood. Part number is in one of the pictures. Its called the exhaust manifold heat shield.

I've used stainless steel fender washers (one on each side) to hold down (or up) heat shields with wallowed out holes on other cars.................

Thanks for the quick responses, all! I've got it off at the moment; I'll give the washer idea a try since it's not TOO badly rusted. I imagine it'll be OK without it for a few days.

Moved to "General Technical Chat". The part that FOCUS.FREAK has listed is exactly what you need. For best results when installing it I would recommend removing the fan assembly so you have more access room to put the shield on. The fan is simple to remove also, just remove two connectors, lift up then tilt back at an angle, then wiggle it out of there. The 10-15 minutes it takes you to remove the fan assembly will save you countless bloody knuckles and swearing rampages lol.
