Please help identify this part
My sons car made a loud bang, cold weather and we found this underneath now the car will not run properly. Looks like an armature of some type with a bearing on the end. Please see attached link and thanks in advance

Under the engine and bits of plastic as well, it also looks like it blew the outer intake right off the inner portion. At first when he described it I thought it was the block heater going. Looks like I will be taking the manifold off. I am wondering if this is the pivot for the plenum on the intake.

Ouch that may be it and would explain why it won't start due to the huge vacuum leak it has now. Now what cause the car to blow the intake manifold apart?

Car was running great, did need new battery, found that out for sure when it was cold. The only thing I can think is the block heater, which jr left on for a day got hot caused some gas vapor in the intake, and when he went to start it kaboom. Blew the entire ouside manifold off the inner portion. Will find out this weekend if I need a new intake. Ian do you have one in your shed? I dont think my luck could be that good.

I did do a swap back in the day but nothing in the shed! Check Kijiji there was a guy parting out an SVT that I bought my steering wheel from. May have some leftovers for you.

Its the intake for sure, surfing the forums it looks like it somewhat common in colder climates to have this happen. Flood the car, vapour in the intake, open valve, spark, kaboom. Nice thing is the dealer does carry them, for about 6 hundred. I will check kijiiji like you say.
