Sub box question
Hey all,
I am new to the SVT focus world- Hello everyone. I am installing a sound system in my new-to-me 04' SVT Zx3. I removed the stock enclosure and am building a MDF box for my 10in sub I purchased. I would like to utilize that empty space where the stock enclosure was and was wondering if putting a wedge shaped box upside down would it be a good idea. That way it would take up some of the room above the wheel well. Is this going to distort the sound in any way? Keep in mind this is my first sound system install and if this question is really dumb im new lol. Thanks! |

I'm not an audio expert but but have done my fair share of tinkering. My current box is a really odd shape and I have not had any ill effects. There are plenty of boxes that aren't just "boxes" that perform well everyday. I think you would be safe with an upside down wedge as long as its all properly sealed.
Here is my box. you can see what I mean by "odd":

first off, welcome to the forum!
have you looked at something like the mtx thunderform or jl stealthbox? they both have applications designed to replace the factory enclosure and comform very well to the body structure and give good performance. if you stick a wedge in there you will most likely need to secure it to keep it from rattling or rolling around in the hatch. also you will prolly still have a fair amount of open space since it's a generic shape and not for that specific application.

looks like you should have room to mount it to the side (towards front or car) of the box with no issues.
